As a Special Events Coordinator, through strong communication, I was successful in planning meetings for board members, taking notes and sending correspondence on behalf of the board, and planning major fundraising events. In my first financial aid position, I was responsible for communicating with students, families, and the community about financial aid options. After learning the financial aid ropes, I created various outreach opportunities that still exist today, plus helped in creating the marketing pieces for the Financial Aid Office. Making the decision to further grow my career, I moved to San Francisco to become a Financial Aid Counselor. After excelling in this position, I was offered a promotion to my current job. Today, I use the skills I learned about effective communication to counsel students through the difficult financial aid process, to manage a Financial Aid Counselor, and help to train the office staff. It is through these skills that I am able to help ensure smooth operations within the office. My experience has taught me the importance of effective written and verbal communication. As communication shifts from one platform (snail mail) to another (social media), these skills are highly desired, transferable, and needed for all types of work. In addition, I am a highly motivated, eager worker who is organized, personable, and fun. Interested in positions including financial aid, higher ed, executive assistant, communication, social media, public relations, and office manager.
