Born and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Attended Western Hills High School, University of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky University's Chase Law School.  Spent time in the USMC and US Army [Viet Nam and Germany].  Retired from the US Army Reserve.  Retired from the Department of Defense as federal attorney.  Currently in private law practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan now.  Married to the former Auri Rosado.  Three children [Jeff, Mike and Ali] and five grandchildren [Alex, Nati, Sadie.
