Dr. Arrott began his career as a bulldozer operator for the British Columbia Railway. After receiving his education in physics, physiology and biomedical engineering at McGill University and MIT, he founded and managed a scientific instrumentation company, Payload Systems, that flew the first commercial space experiments aboard the Soviet space station Mir. (Payload Systems was subsequently acquired by Aurora Flight Systems.) At the end of the Cold War, Dr. Arrott co-developed and co-managed a defense conversion consulting practice at Arthur D. Little focused on satellite communications and imaging technologies. Dr. Arrott has performed numerous technology due diligence studies for financial institutions investing in large new communications infrastructure projects. These include satellite and wireless systems in Italy, Israel, Egypt and Japan for Barclays BZW, Chase, Mitsubishi, Bear Stearns and the Bank of Kuwait. During the early dotcom era, Dr. Arrott worked on internet gaming startups in Ireland and city portal web sites in New York City. Since , Dr. Arrott has worked in market analytics and digital threat research for the security software industry. He currently serves as product manager for security analytics at global anti-virus vendor Trend Micro. Among other duties, he manages external benchmark testing that measures the protection commercial security software products provide to their customers. In Dr. Arrott led the project team for Trend Micro HijackThis v. enhancing the popular malware diagnostic tool originally developed by Merijn Bellekom.
