I'm a computer science major at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and a developer of websites and random things on the side. When I'm not busy working on homework and studying for tests, I'm reading (both paper and bits) or working on some random project. Currently I'm an undergraduate research assistant working with Nick Hopper and Max Schuchard at the University of Minnesota doing research on BGP and Internet routing. I'm also the lead developer for BizzyWeb, using the WordPress platform. I occasionally blog and I sometimes tweet. I tend to suffer from a lack of creativity in some of these endeavors, though :) Interests Web services Cryptology Virtualization Systems and network security Computer virology and malware Current Work Emulating BGP -- Work at the University of Minnesota on stress testing implementations of BGP and the potential effects of malicious BGP speakers. BizzyWeb -- Lead developer for a local web and social media firm. Past Work Summer 2010 -- Research through an REU grant with Dr. Nikita Borisov at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Worked on post-facto secure email. Spring 2010 -- Research with Dr. Nicholas Hopper and Max Schuchard at the University of Minnesota. Built emulation deployments of Quagga's BGPD to test potential vulnerabilities with BGP. Spring 2009 -- Worked with Dr. Nicholas Hopper and Erik Shimshock on improving anonymity in the Tor system by increasing the location diversity. A quote I like "Byrne told me that you can't fix your exact position on the earth without referring to some point in the sky. Something to do with triangulation, the technique of measurement, I forget the details. The crux was compelling to me, though, it's never left me since. A man can't know where he is on the earth except in relation to the moon or a star. Astronomy comes first; land maps follow because of it. Just the opposite of what you'd expect. If you think about it long enough, it will turn your brain inside-out. A here only exists in relation to a there, not the other way around. There's this only because there's that; if we don't look up, we'll never know what's down. Think of it, boy. We find ourselves only by looking to what we're not. You can't put your feet on the ground until you've touched the sky." -- Thomas Effing, Moon Palace (by Paul Auster),Security researcher and student.,Computer Science,
