I am a geologist, a writer, a river and trail guide and a traveler. Everything seems right when I am on a trail or river watching the earth spin - my cares and worries disappear, my body and mind get exercise, and there is nothing to disturb the ebb and flow of life. Out there is where ideas come to me, where stories flow through me like the rivers that carry me towards home. Now and then, I post ramblings on geology, life in the west and on a living planet, and travels across the globe. Life is good, if only we'd take the time to understand that.

Caving is a big part of my life. I'm a Fellow in the National Speleological Society and started the NSS Caving forum at www.cavechat.org. It's a member-driven caving forum and is the largest caving forum in the United States. Any caver is welcome to sign up and post, regardless of whether they are a member of the N.S.S. My profile photo is a photoshop of Paris Hilton from a horror movie. I put her in a caving helmet with a pack in a cave, crying, and titled it, "Why I'll never take Paris Hilton caving again." Click to see the full image I am a 60-something father of a teenager who is the apple of my eye. She has maintained a 4.0 grade average since elementary school, has been dancing since she was 2 and is an avid caver. I've been taking photographs since 1978 when I bought the "revolutionary" Canon A1 SLR, which I was very proud to own. It was the first SLR to offer an electronically controlled programmed autoexposure mode. It also offered a choice of aperture priority or shutter priority. I gave the camera to my daughter who uses it when she's not shooting digital. My first camera was a Kodak Brownie. I am an Anglophile and love taking, and seeing ,pictures of England. My wife is English and she has relatives there. I am also an avid mushroomer and was a member of the Colorado Mycological Society for a number of years and was editor of their newsletter. My principal interest is mycophagy and I consider myself a real fungi. (play on words. sorry, I couldn't resist.)
