Currently I am attending graduate school at Drake for Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, and Assistive Technology. The program is on nights and weekends and is designed for full time working adults. Upon completion of this program I will become a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), and a Assistive Technology Professional (ATP). The position I am in search of would combine my past marketing, business development, assistive technology, experiences working with individuals with disabilities and mental health disorders, as well as, with that of my current graduate studies. Prior, I worked as a Consultant for Medical Devices in the field of Augmented and Alternative Communication for a company named DynaVox Technologies. Due to the state of the economy, my position was eliminated. I have since gotten my Substitute Teaching License, volunteered with Panora PETS, and now am in graduate school. My former company provided speech generating devices to those who have difficulty communicating verbally. My job was to educate and train both the users of the devices as well as their caretakers. I worked with anyone that is involved in the user’s life; whether that be their family, a therapist, or their social worker. A lot of my job was around education of Augmented and Alternative Communication. I have spoken at conferences and in many large group settings and traveled extensively. I loved my job because every day I got to help someone and give them a voice. These devices helped those with Communication Disorders speak and gave a voice to individuals with a variety of communication, physical, and mental impairments. I worked with: Speech Therapists, the VA, Group Homes, AEA's, Work Sites, Schools, Long Term Care Facilities, Hospitals, Rehabs, Home Health Agencies, Support Groups, Social workers, and Non-profits. And have worked with a clients from 18 months to 94 years old.
