Robert Winston (coach)

Robert Winston was an American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Syracuse University in 1890 and at the University of Georgia in 1894, compiling a career record of 13–4. He wasread more... the first coach of the Georgia Bulldogs football team to receive a salary. Winston was British and had previously coached the Blackheath Harriers rugby team in England. He was also a "bantam boxer" and trainer for an athletic club in London, before coming to the United States in 1883. After moving to the United States, Winston also helped train other American football teams at Yale University (1883–1888), Amherst College (1889), and the University of Rochester (1890), Williams College, Princeton University and other New England based teams. Winston also worked at the Berkeley Athletic club in New York. After Yale, Winston also oversaw the building of a gymnasium in Townsend, Washington in 1887.read less...

Robert Francis Winston is an Irish jockey who competes in Flat racing. He was the British flat racing Champion Apprentice in 1999 and won the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes on Magical Romance in 2004. Bob Day (athlete)

Robert Winston "Bob" Day was an American long-distance runner who competed at the 1968 Mexico Olympics. He lettered and graduated from UCLA where he was on Jim Bush's track team, winning an individualread more... NCAA Championship in the mile in 1965, with the team title following at the 1966 NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Also while at UCLA, he became the 12th American to break four minutes for the mile in 1964, and held the school record (3:56.4) for 40 years. In 1965 he became an All-American when the UCLA Distance Medley Relay was faster than the World Record. He won the 1968 US Track & Field Senior National crown in the 5,000 meter event competing for the US Army team. Later in life, he was the first head coach of both the Cross Country and Track and Field programs at Beckman High School in Irvine. He began at Beckman in 2005, and won his first Pacific Coast League title in 2008. He died of bladder cancer at his home in Irvine, California, aged 67.read less...
