As president of the Entertainment & Devices (E&D) Division at Microsoft Corp., Robbie Bach drives the company's Connected Entertainment vision, offering consumers new and compelling, branded entertainment experiences across music, gaming, video and mobile communications. Bach's responsibilities include guiding software, services and hardware innovation throughout Microsoft's entertainment and mobility platforms, and bringing those solutions to market with retailers and partners. Bach also manages Microsoft's worldwide retail relationships as well as media and entertainment partner relationships. The E&D Division is composed of four main businesses: the Interactive Entertainment Business, home to the Xbox and Games for Windows gaming platforms; the Mobile Communications Business, which develops and markets Windows Mobile software, services and applications; the TV, Video and Music Business, comprised of Microsoft Mediaroom, Windows Media Center and Zune software and services; and the Specialized Devices and Applications Business, which includes the Hardware Group, Microsoft Surface, Office for Mac, Microsoft Auto and Windows Embedded software. Since joining Microsoft in 1988, Bach has worked on a variety of Microsoft products in a career marked by increasingly senior management positions. His experience includes a period in Europe as the manager of Business Operations from 1990 to 1992. He also led the marketing effort for Microsoft Office from 1992 to 1997. Before the formation of the E&D Division in 2005, Bach managed the global launches of Xbox and Xbox 360 in his dual role as chief Xbox officer and head of the Home and Entertainment Group - a global division that was responsible for Xbox, Games for Windows, the Microsoft TV platform, and consumer hardware and software products. Bach also serves as Chairman of the National Board of Governors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, where he has been a driving force for the organization's efforts to bring technology skills to every Club member, while making online safety a top priority. Bach also serves on the board of the Entertainment Software Association Foundation, following a one-year term as chairman from 2007 to 2008. Before joining Microsoft, Bach worked as a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley & Co. He has a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from Stanford University. He is married with three children.

Robert Fox Bacher was an American nuclear physicist and one of the leaders of the Manhattan Project. Born in Loudonville, Ohio, Bacher obtained his undergraduate degree and doctorate from the University of Michigan, writing his 1930 doctoral thesis under the supervision of Samuel Goudsmit on the Zeeman effect of the hyperfine structure of atomic levels. After graduate work at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he accepted a job at Columbia University. In 1935 he accepted an offer from Hans Bethe to work with him at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, It was there that Bacher collaborated with Bethe on his book Nuclear Physics.
