How did you get started in the industry? I was a freshman in high school and made friends with a dj that was spinning at local junior highs and high schools. I made friends with him and he taught me a lot about being a dj. Eventually, I ended up starting my own mobile disc jockey business.How would you classify your musical style? Diverse. I play hip hop and party tunes in bars. I spin electro house and breakbeat in the underground scene. I play rock in the strip club. I work weddings and corporate gigs too. Different styles to fit different occaisions.What's the biggest change you have seen in the DJ industry in the last 5 years?The conversion to digital music format. I used to carry hundreds of CDs and crates of records. Now, I only carry a laptop with a huge hard drive. It is a lot lighter and a lot easier to access music now.What's the funniest thing that ever happened while performing?What do you do different that differentiates you from other quality DJs?Experience. I have been a dj for 17 years. I have played for 1000's of people at hundreds of gigs. I have been lucky enough to make my passion my career.What's the most gratifying thing that every happened to you as a DJ?I used to play at Club Freedom in Tempe (RIP), and some of my best memories were how crazy the crowds got when I opened for djs like Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, and Dieselboy. It was an amazing time.Name a DJ (local or national) that you truly respect and why?I have always respected Z-Trip. I used to open for him at Axis Radius many years ago. I was amazed how he would transition flawlessly through genres of music. Disco, hip hip, techno...everything!Tell us a secret about yourself or your show:I don't keep secrets. Anyone is invited behind the tables to see what I am doing or what I am spinning. Just don't spill your drink!What advice would you give someone who wants to be a DJ?With technology now, anyone can be a dj. Make it a hobby first, practice, then try and get gigs. In that order. Too many people want to be a rockstar with no talent.What's the biggest misconception people have about DJs?A big misconception is that all djs have big egos. A lot do, but not all of them. I am very humble and not competitive with my craft. I love what I do and want to share it with as many as possible.What's the most difficult aspect of trying to make it in this biz?More djs than places to spin. Competition. What do you think will happen to your music in the next 2 years?The amazing resurgence of house music and it's overtaking of the local nightclub scene.What will people hear when they listen to your music?Something familiar, something funky, and lots of fun.If there was a "Golden Rule" for being a DJ, what would it be?Wear earplugs!Do you have any CDs out that we can buy?Sleepless in Scottsdale Vol. 10 is in stores nowYour favorite place to play in the city?Wrigley Mansion, for the best view from behind the decksWhat's the hardest part about putting the material together for your show?I am not a fan of too much prep. I like to watch the crowd, and see what they are into. That is where my experience comes into play.If you could change one thing about the DJ-Club scene in town, what would it be?It would be cool if there was a way that we could create some sort of a union. If all the local djs could sit down in one place at one time.
