Keith Waithe is a Guyana-born musician, composer and teacher who has been based in the United Kingdom since 1977. He is best known as a flautist and founder of the Macusi Players – a world music jread more...azz band whose name derives from the indigenous Guyanese Macushi people – and has been "acknowledged as the best flute player that Guyana has ever produced". His musical style explores a fusion of jazz, classical, African, Caribbean, Asian and Western influences, and he has also developed a technique he calls "vocal gymnastics", in which he uses the voice to reproduce percussive sounds. Music critic Kevin Le Gendre notes that Waithe "has single-mindedly pursued his own artistic agenda, developing a songbook that draws heavily on African-Caribbean and Asian folk traditions as well as jazz ingenuity in a manner not dissimilar to a large number of his forebears, of which Yusef Lateef is perhaps the most direct reference."read less...

Keith Peter Tritton is a British astronomer and observatory manager who has worked in various different parts of the world. He joined the Royal Greenwich Observatory in 1967 as a research astronomer aread more...nd later worked at the Radcliffe Observatory in South Africa and the Royal Observatory Edinburgh. He spent a number of years as a university lecturer in the Philippines and in Thailand. His particular interest is observational astronomy. He was head of the UK Schmidt Telescope in Australia and of the Isaac Newton Group of telescopes in the Canary Islands. In 1987, he returned to the Royal Greenwich Observatory and moved with them to Cambridge in 1990, where he became head of the Astronomy Division. He took early retirement in 1997. Working witread more...h a Fruehauf customer, Malcom McLean, they spearheaded the container ship revolution in the 1950s, Tantlinger developed much of the early technology that made modern container shipping possible while at Fruehauf. After its initial order of containers from Brown Trailer, Sea-Land switched to containers made by the Strick division of the Fruehauf Trailer Company. Fruehauf had been one of the dominant players in building truck bodies and trailers for a long time, and, as already described, had previously innovated in the design and construction of the early commercial semi-trailers. President Roy Fruehauf was impressed with the idea of containerization, so in addition to manufacturing containers for Sea-Land his company agreed to make the trailer chassis that were needed, and also to provide financing to Sea-Land for the purchase of these containers and chassis.read less...
