I am currently working on the genetics of Parkinson’s disease, specifically using genome-wide approaches. I was recently the co-first author on a manuscript detailing the largest GWAS in Parkinson’s disease to date that identified several susceptibility loci and was published in Nature Genetics. To follow up on this work, I am presently using second generation sequencing with both the Illumina/Solexa Genome Analyzer and HiSeq2000 with two main goals: 1) to perform fine-mapping of nominated loci from our GWAS study; 2) to perform whole-exome sequencing in Parkinson’s disease affected individuals to identify novel mutations. I am also experienced in using bioinformatics tools for both microarray and second-generation sequencing data analysis.
