Born in Jackson, Michigan in 1954, Bishop Brown has always known that he was a product of the prayers of his Grandmother Sarah Fletcher. She petitioned God for a grandson and God responded through her only surviving child Ellendora Martha Brown, even though she was 40 years old, unmarried and had never had any children. Through the love and encouragement of his Godly grandmother and mother James flourished in the harsh environment of the city of his birth.
