My main interest is to understand the effects of different evolutionary forces on the structure and composition of the genome and proteome of different species. I am currently working on the evolution of genome nucleotide content. Specifically understanding the key players behind the heterogeneity in genome nucleotide content is the puzzle of my interest. Also as a part of my project I am developing a Java package simulating the interplay between background selection, selective sweep and recombination. The other topic I cover in my research is to study what effects this heterogeneity might have on the current methods in genomic and phylogenetic analysis and also how we can fix this effect so we can get more accurate and reliable results from our analysis. I have developed several computer programs to be able to do the analysis on the large data sets (genomes and proteomes of several species). I have experiences in programming in different languages (e.g. C++/Java as well as some scripting languages such as Perl, PhP, and Shell programming) alongside with my biology side knowledge. During my PhD time, I developed a search engine for DNA barcode sequences using Google search hardware box. This search engine is available at http://www.dnabarcodelinker.com. Also during my masters time I developed a database for secondary structure of proteins using relational database model. I also had a two years collaboration with computer engineering department at my home university working on improving the accuracy of protein secondary structure prediction using classifier fusion approaches which led to a few publications.
