Eric Woodard serves as Director for Fellowships and Internships at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. Before his position at the Smithsonian, Eric served as Executive Director of the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO, a Federal Advisory Committee charged with providing expert advice to the U.S. Government in the areas of natural science, social science, information, education, and culture. As Commission Director, Eric strengthened U.S. multilateral ties by encouraging U.S. engagement in a number of UNESCO programs such as World Heritage, Memory of the World, University Chairs, Associated Schools, Creative Cities, and the global network of UNESCO clubs. Eric spearheaded a first of its kind inter-Commission virtual internship program and promoted U.S. nominations for a variety of international prizes and fellowships. Before his position with the Commission, Eric served as Special Assistant and Scheduler to Hillary Rodham Clinton during her full tenure as U.S. Senator. During the Clinton Administration, Eric served in the White House as Office Manager to the First Lady. Over a twelve year span at the White House and in the Senate Eric designed and managed a variety of programs for both interns and fellows. Eric himself first came to Washington to do an internship in . Between and , Eric logged over hours underwater working as a scuba instructor on Guam. Eric is the author of Your Last Day of School Ways You Can Be a Great Intern and Turn Your Internship into a Job. He also writes a popular blog and co-hosts a weekly internet radio show about internships. Eric grew up in Thailand attending the International School of Bangkok. He holds a B.A. in Biology from the University of Missouri and an M.A. in International Affairs from George Washington University.
