With the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War, I have begun providing information sources and services to researchers who share my interest in genealogy (more below) and history. This includes making visits to courthouses and cemeteries, and doing research in local newspapers and archives. As a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and of the National Genealogical Society, I adhere to the Genealogical Standards of sound research principles and excellent source citation. I'm a graduate of Advanced Library Research Law Libraries Government Documents (Course ) at the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR), Samford University. I keep current in the activities and educational opportunities offered through the Georgia Genealogical Society, the North Carolina Genealogical Society, the American Library Association, the Georgia Library Association, and the Southeastern Library Association. I continue to learn through webinars, workshops, study and discussion groups, institutes and courses, journals and periodicals, networking and conferences, and other structured learning opportunities. During my career as a Library Technician, which was focused on helping people find information, I gained experience in identifying authoritative online resources this enables me to learn quickly about new and challenging topics. I have located and obtained materials that my institution didnt own (or have immediate online access to), either from other libraries via Inter-Library Loan (ILL) through WorldCat, or via commercial document delivery services. Honing my ability to use these resources has been a benefit in genealogy. (If library work is putting people and information together, then genealogy is using information to put people together into family groups.) My own parents and most immediate ancestors were from North Carolina, with more distant relatives in Georgia (where I've lived for years).
