Also known as: fribbles

fribble frib·ble v. frib·bled, frib·bling, frib·bles v. tr. To waste (time, for example); fritter (something) away. v. intr. To waste time; trifle. n. 1. A frivolity; a trifle. 2. A frivolous person. [Origin unknown.]fribbler n. I started making original fribbles in 1996, at the age of 16. Before that, my mother and father had introduced my brothers and myself to trolls. I found a creative outlet making troll clothes [smallest size approximately 1 inch in height---not including hair!---to a gignormous 8 inch size =P ]! Even today I prefer the miniature scale. The original fribbles, sold at local farmer's markets, were mostly made from felt, and there was quite a menagerie. My brothers came up with the original idea of a fribble, starting out as tiny companions to trolls. Encouraged by both my father and mother, the list of animals I've turned into fribbles ranges from the top of the globe [penguins, walruses & polar bears] to woodland animals [moose, raccoons, mountain lions & skunks] to equatorial Africa [lions, giraffees, zebras & elephants]. I've also made man's best friend, from labs to Rottweilers to coyotes, & created custom miniature creations from clients favorite stuffed animals---matching the colors up can be tough, but the end result is fantastic! I use many different materials when making fribbles---pompoms, felt, foamie, acrylic & wool yarns, DMC floss, hobby model paint, hot glue, pipe cleaners, fishing line, fabric paints, telephone wire, micro no-hole beads, polymer clay, plasti-goop, super glue [and, upon occassion, super glue remover!], ribbon, nail polish, sequins, Styrofoam, pearl ex powders, lampwork glass, toothpaste caps, stamping foil, anything & EVERYTHING I can incorporate into 'em. As my collection of craft material was initially begun from my grandmother's donation of extra sewing/quilting material, I used a variety of everyday household materials in combination with the craft items. I've always been enamoured with tiny artist teddies---I was a collector long before I ever thought it was even remotely possible for me to make these enchanting little bruins. My husband, hoping to stem the tide of increased spending in regards to my artist bear collection, suggested I learn to sew mini bears, and followed up by including a DVD how-to guide as a birthday present in August of 2005. With the birth of our son, and decorating the nursery with little teddies, I decided to give it a go, and have been enthralled ever since! Thank you for taking time to look through my flickr album. I hope some of my work touches your heart---I thoroughly enjoy making bears, and hope that some of that happiness shines outward through each fribble creation, spilling sunshine and smiles. If you have any questions or just want to chat about bears, feel free to email me through flickr or [email protected] . =) Very best, For updates, ramblings and snippets from a fribbler fribbling fribbles, check out my blog!!
