Ali M. Latifi is an award-winning bilingual journalist with extensive print and digital media experience. Fluent in Persian (Dari), Ali has reported on cultural and political issues in Afghanistan for leading media outlets, including the New York Times, Al Jazeera English, The Asia Times and Voice of America. Born in Kabul and raised in the largest Afghan-American community in the United States, Ali has used his knowledge of the country to help coordinate Al Jazeera's coverage of Afghanistan since joining the organisation in . When the February protests against the burning of Qurans at the Bagram airbase broke out, Ali helped establish and update a live blog tracking the demonstrations. Since then, Ali has maintained the blog with constant updates on the conflict in Afghanistan before they are reported on the AJE website itself. In Kabul during the March massacre in Kandahar, Ali became the first journalist to report on the Afghan capital's reaction to the killings. His article, Kabul Rock City, about the latest evolution in the Afghan music scene, won Ali a South Asian Journalists Association Award for outstanding arts, culture, or travel story.
