I am currently a senior majoring in Political Science-International Relations at Columbia University in New York City and graduating in May 2012. During the first semester of my senior year, I spent four months in Beijing, China interning within the General Counsel's Office/Legal Department of Baidu, an experience which inspired me to join China's maturing Internet industry, especially as opportunities for expansion beyond the domestic Mainland China market become apparent on the horizon, after I graduate from Columbia. During my internship at Baidu, I was able to combine my passions for finance, capital markets, public policy, entrepreneurship, and understanding the ramifications of China's economic/social development. Before interning at Baidu, I gained experience in corporate/commercial banking at Citigroup Global Transaction Services in New York, spending two months in the North America Global Liquidity, Investments, and Information Services team. This opportunity exposed me to the day-to-day financing needs of multinational Fortune 500 corporations. My internships at Baidu and Citi were preceded by rewarding experiences in media and public policy at Porter Novelli China and two leading Washington, D.C. non-profits following the presidential election of 2008, in which I volunteered for Barack Obama. Yet perhaps the defining experience of my college years was serving as a leader in the non-profit organization Global China Connection (www.gccglobal.org), which enables university students in China and the rest of the world to develop meaningful relationships through shared projects. Defining a concrete future path or destination for myself would be presumptuous at this point in life. My interests and goals have changed frequently over the past three years, but each stop in my path I have learned a great deal about a new field and met wonderful individuals I am proud to call colleagues and friends.
