I am the co-founder of Workforce Enterprises LLC (http://www.WE-NYC.com) a New York-based social enterprise serving the New York area’s digital printing and document management employers. OUR SOCIAL GOAL is to train and place individuals who are unemployed or under-employed for sustainable careers in the printing and document management industries. OUR PROFIT GOAL is to demonstrate that our business model is sustainable, scalable and profitable; and to bring about changes in the systems that impact the training and employment opportunities available to low-income workers. OUR BUSINESS MODEL incorporates the interests of New York City’s non-profit agencies, whose missions include career development and job placement for their clients; with the commercial document management employers’ who are facing a growing demand for qualified, entry-level staff. EVERYONE WINS:. Our sector-based training program provides nonprofits with a unique, technology based training program without the additional expense of creating it anew; and provides employers with trained staff with higher employment retention rates than they obtain from their current sources. Our model facilitates the nonprofit and employer partners’ ability to achieve their respective missions, and in doing so creates a greater social outcome for low-income workers.
