By trade, Im a journalist. At heart, Im an educator. Throughout my career, Ive always kept one eye on the story and the other on a question, How can I make this information useful for my readers By day, I'm a reporter at Newsday. After years of covering career, consumer, and workplace issues as a columnist and features writer, Ive moved into the digital space where I now focus on covering live events and news as it happens. I write about local news from weather to drownings, road closures to the . million sale of a Ming Dynasty vase that had been used as a door stop. In off hours, I spend time in classrooms. Ive taught news literacy as an adjunct instructor at Stony Brook University and regularly participate in social media classes and programs hosted by Columbia Universitys Graduate School of Journalism. Im fascinated by LinkedIn, Twitter and other socialdigital tools that help people shape and manage their personal brands. Along those lines, I also have a passion for sharing best practices and easy ways to make these resources serve individual needs. I'm always scanning for story ideas for our business section on the changing digital world and personal brand management. Other special interests include emotional intelligence and techniques for working more effectively. If youd like to share concepts and swap ideas in these or related topics, please get in touch.
