Yosef Goldman is a musician, prayer leader, spiritual care giver and Jewish educator. He has taught and led innovative, musical and contemplative prayer service for communities of every Jewish denomination. Yosef has worked with some of the most dynamic and cutting edge congregations in America and Israel, including Congregation Beit Simchat Torah (NYC), Romemu (NYC), The Kitchen (San Francisco), Beit Tefila Yisraeli (Tel Aviv), Nava Tehila (Jerusalem) and Bnai Jeshurun (NYC), where he served as BJs first cantorial intern. He was ordained in by the Jewish Theological Seminary, where he received a Masters of Sacred Music degree. He received a BA in psychology from Yeshiva University, training in progressive, multidenominational education from the HaSha'ar Fellowship in Jewish Education and training in Jewish spiritual direction from the Lev Shomea Institute at Elat Chayyim. He has studied at Yeshivat Chovevei Torah, Mechon Hadar, Machon Schechter, the Conservative Yeshiva, Hebrew Union College's Jerusalem campus, and The Center for Middle Eastern Classical Music. A trained vocalist and percussionist, he has been performing Jewish music since the age of four and has performed as a choral soloist in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, Town Hall and in venues across North America. He has performed and recorded with Joey Weisenberg, Basya Schechter of Pharoahs Daughter, Shir Yaakov Feit and the Kirtan Rabbi. As a percussionist he has played with the acclaimed world music DJ collective Globesonic and accompanied sacred spirit dance rituals with Parashaktis Dance of Liberation. He is a member of the band The Epichorus. Yosef is passionate about performing and preserving traditional Jewish devotional music including Chassidic niggunim and the liturgical piyyut of the Jews of the Middle East and North Africa.
