Kenny Mitchell is 5'11", 165lbs., has hazel green eyes and black hair. He believes that staying in good physical condition promotes mental and spiritual health, and heightens his level of creativity. Kenny's musical background begins with his mothers family, each of whom played several different musical instruments, and for many years entertained in the New England area as a family orchestra. As a child Kenny studied the violin and piano. At age nine he began concentrating on the drums, joined his first of many bands as a drummer at age twelve, and by age twenty-three had attended symposiums with Buddy Rich and studied with Joe Morello, formerly of the Dave Brubeck Quartet. However, as a percussionist he was at the mercy of his band mates and their varying levels of commitment. So, with extreme reluctance at age twenty-four, Kenny set aside his drumsticks for an acoustic guitar and started over. He felt the guitar offered him the freedom to express his individual desire to make music, his lifes passion, unencumbered by anyones dream but his own. For three years Kenny studied classical guitar. Although his classical teacher provided an excellent technical foundation, he was only one of many that would eventually lead him to his own stylistic techniques. Some of these included a guitarist associated with Aerosmith during their formative years (3 yrs.), a jazz guitarist trained at the Berkelee School of Music (2 yrs.), the guitarist for the Unknown Blues Band and Kilimanjaro (3 yrs.), a distinguished New York Studio guitarist (1yr.) and a jazz guitarist trained at The Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, California (3 yrs.). Throughout his entire musical history, Kenny's vocal has been his mainstay. Kenny composes his music on guitar and occasionally the piano, and writes all his own lyrics. Kenny is a solo vocalist performer, accompanying himself with the guitar and harmonica and has recorded several original musical projects, among these Sometimes Late at Night, The Quiet Storm and Bare Bones. Kenny is constantly working on developing new material for his live performances and studio projects. His musical style has been compared to James Taylor, Kenny Loggins, Paul Simon, Kenny Rankin, Eric Clapton, and more recently Jack Johnson and Adam Levine.
