John Hallberg, a Southern California native, is highly in demand as both a performer and instructor and ranks among the most esteemed and admired saxophonists of his generation. Able to show many different and unique styles and techniques of playing, as described by internationally renowned saxophonist Douglas Masek, John has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Hong Kong, and across the United States. Johns career has taken him to many of the worlds most prestigious venues, including Segerstrom Hall, The Englert Theater, Orange County Performing Arts Center, McCormick Place, Bovard Auditorium, Hong Kong Academy of the Performing Arts Concert Hall, as well as numerous university campuses. Johns can be seen and heard on broadcasts of UITV, KUSC, and KCCK. John has won awards and top prizes in competitions, including st prizes at the state and regional rounds of the - Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Solo Competition. He was also a finalist in the - Music Teachers National Association Chamber Competition, and a semi-finalist in the North American Saxophone Alliance Quartet Competition. John is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate in Saxophone Performance at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. John also holds a Master of Arts degree from The University of Iowa, and a Bachelor of Music degree from The Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach. He has performed under the batons of notable conductors such as H. Robert Reynolds, Frank Battisti, Ray Cramer, Richard Heidel, and John Carnahan. Johns primary instructors include Dr. Doug Masek, Dr. Kenneth Tse, and James Barrera.
