IT Executive I’m a business tech guy that grew up in the rolling Wilshire Downs near Marlborough in England. Surrounded by fascinating sites from pre-history to the modern day, I grew up fascinated by history, travel and man’s development of and application of tools. Wanting to travel from an early age and having graduated from Exeter University with a degree in Physics with Geophysics, I embarked on an international career in oil exploration. My seismic career took me to Libya, South Africa, Brunei, Libya (again), Tunisia, Dubai and Oman. A career transition then took me to the USA where I led a major Superfund environmental remediation project. That (naturally) led into a leadership position on a major global SAP implementation for Schlumberger. After a two year spell living in Paris, France, I returned to the US to lead worldwide MRO systems implementation and support for Transocean. Following the merger of Global SantaFe with Transocean I spent some time as a consultant which included a spell analyzing a JV opportunity for a subsidiary of Qatar Petroleum. I then joined KBR, initially to improve the support and cost structure of their Accounting, Finance, HR and payroll applications portfolio. I recently transferred over to lead the boundary applications related activities on KBR’s Oracle EBS 12 design project. My time spent in remote corners of the world prior to embarking on my IT leadership career gives me a unique real-world, user’s perspective on application design, implementation and support. Successful IT projects depend upon selecting the right tool for the job then using the tool as it was intended to be used. Outside of my day-to-day activities, I’m interested in how big businesses will adopt and adapt to consumer IT – tablets, augmented reality, social media, etc. – as more young people enter the workforce unfamiliar with and reluctant to use traditional business IT tools and methods. Photography My interest in photography really started in High School any my purchase of my first SLR camera. Initially working in black-and-white, I would rig a temporary darkroom in the family bathroom to process prints. On entering university in the early 1980s I moved up to color transparency film and then switched to digital in 2006. My current DLSR of choice is my Canon EOS 5D mark II. I do nearly all my processing in Adobe Lightroom but often add finishing touches in Adobe Photoshop.
