On many occasions I've been described as a hybrid designer technologist. At the core, I'm an interaction designer - but bring along a very deep understanding of a myriad of technologies. I code on a number of platforms and languages and have done quite a bit of Arduino hacking to gain a deep appreciation of the internet-of-things. I apply this foundational knowledge not solely towards development, but often as insight to understand the potential afforded by technology itself as an element of design, and how that can be used to improve or sometimes completely change the user experience. Innovation seems to be the hot new buzzword, and these days it seems everyone is talking about it, but only a few are actually doing it. In the end, far-out ideas are just "designer pornography" and very creative thoughts if they cannot be built. Keeping at pace with the latest and greatest allows me to design interactions in the context of what is realistically implementable platforms and data services make up an integral component of my design palette. Theodore Levitt, Harvard Business School I find myself continually discovering emerging trends, and often designing and creating potentially new ones by tinkering, hacking and partnering with the latest enablers not only in an effort to stay sharp and ahead of what is upcoming (alternative interfaces, emergent form factors, semantic web, pervasive computing), but also in consideration of how businesses can use what has already emerged mobile, augmented reality, gestural interfaces, social networks, location services and the cloud to bolster their brand and stay competitive. Specialties My time is best spent in problem solving, sketching and RD mode, innovating with an eye towards building implementable solutions. My tools of the trade immersion, research and contextual inquiry to (a) identify problem spaces, (b) map user journeys, (c) gather insight and (d) formulate opportunities. Technology fills in the gaps and allows me to conceptualize, prototype and iteratively define, refine and design groundbreaking products and services.
