Amanda Sena worked for a number of years in the television news industry before joining Xenophon Strategies in early 2007. As a general assignment reporter at an NBC affiliate in Missouri, Ms. Sena reported breaking news stories and covered the state legislature in Jefferson City, including government-related issues that affected the local communities. She rounded out her journalism career by working for NBC News’ Lisa Myers and the network’s Washington, DC Investigative Unit. One of her most notable assignments was leading research efforts that uncovered an active controversy in the U.S. Army about the quality of standard-issue body armor for soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the increasingly-regular use by army leadership of alternate “Dragon Skin” body armor manufactured by a private company. NBC News’ reports prompted senators to initiate a Government Accountability Office investigation into U.S. Army policy about body armor systems in early 2007. Ms. Sena assists on a number of accounts at Xenophon, providing public relations support, media relations support and media monitoring services. She is also an experienced media trainer and has helped train dozens of clients during her time at Xenophon and in October 2009 was selected as one of the “60 Top Public Relations Experts to Follow on Twitter.” Ms. Sena graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri with her B.J. in Broadcast News, then followed up with her M.A. in Journalism. Prior to receiving her college degrees, Ms. Sena served for four years as an active duty soldier in the U.S. Army. Ms. Sena is also a marathoner and a triathlete.
