I am a Computer and Information Security specialist who has a broad background in Information Technology and Problem Solving. In the past, I received a degree in Civil Engineering and worked for approximately years in the Civil and Environmental Engineering field. This experience helped hone my problem solving skills. While working at this civil engineering firm, I also was the IT "Everything" person - from designing and building the network to acting as a helpdesk technician. After years in the engineering field, I decided that it was time for me to go in a different direction - to find an interest that I loved. I have been a "techie" all my life. It was natural for me to move into Computer Science. Thus, in August , I began the Certificate Program at Texas State University in San Marcos TX for Computer Science which I completed in May . This fall, I will begin the Master of Science in Computer Science (with a concentration in Computer and Information Security) from the University of Texas at San Antonio. I am planning to complete this degree in the next four years while working full-time in a security role. In May , I began full-time employment at the San Antonio Kidney Disease Center (after a year stint in a contract role) working in information technology and security. My role (among many) is to implement security safeguards to protect patient data and ensure regulatory compliance. I am also working on develop several internal application to assist office staff in completing their jobs in an efficient manner. I also am an active participant and office at Geekdom in downtown San Antonio which is a burgeoning home for Central Texas startup activity. I also am a member of both the San Antonio (Bitworks) and the Austin Hackerspaces.
