Simple, robust, bulletproof - that is what makes a good solution. Neat, quick, and new are all easy traps to fall into, but not what makes a good solution. I learn as much as I can about new technology, I learn as much as I can about the problem domain, and then I look for a solution that meets the requirements as well as my criteria. I want development groups to be able to say that they are better at their jobs for having worked with me and business groups to trust and actively seek out my input on their projects.
