Lary Crews began his magic career at age 15, performing at the Club Suzanne in Mount Airy Lodge for a group of vacationing kids. He was paid $25 which he immediately invested in a Temple Screen at Lou Tannen's magic shop in NYC.Crews became a professional magician in 1976, doing magic in restaurants and bars in the Tampa Bay area of Florida for 20 years.In the late 90s, in Los Angeles, Lary worked with famous TV magician Mark Wilson (The Magic Land of Allakazam). He was a magician member of the Magic Castle, an exclusive club for magicians in Hollywood, and he performed close-up magic and helped Mark teach magic classes there. Crews also taught workshops for amateur magicians at local meetings of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of America Magicians.In 2001 Lary created a subset of “strolling” magic called Line Magic. He performing for tourists waiting in line for tickets to the Tonight Show with Jay Leno at NBC in Burbank. (Tourists line up as much as three hours early for free tickets to the taping.) Later he performed at various restaurants and dance clubs which had long lines.In 2003, Crews began working as a magician for the Houdini Magic Shops of Las Vegas working in the firm's stores in the New York New York, MGM Grand, Caesars Palace, The Venetian and The Tropicana casinos. He also performed Line Magic at the Stardust casino and The Tropicana. In addition, at The Tropicana's Tiffany Showroom, Crews performed close-up table-side magic as the opening act for stage illusionist Rick Thomas.Now living in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, Crews works as a strolling magician for weddings, corporate events and crafts fairs and is writing another book (He was the author of Extreme Close-Up in 1990) called Strolling Magic.
