I've been a writer for as long as I can remember... it's all I've ever wanted to do. (Well, I DID want to be an astronaut for a bit in the ''s ) Early in my career, I transitioned from newspaper reporting to non-profit communications, because I wanted my work to make a difference. I've found that my skills and my personality make the biggest difference in higher education. I recently started a new adventure at Stanford, building on my web experiences, and making a difference is sometimes a slow process. It was really hard to make a difference when I was at MSU as one person managing web content and strategy, PR and media relations, social media, alumnidevelopment publications and internal communications for a Big Ten business school with , students and , alumni. I just took it one day at a time. ("Spartans Will") All in all, I do feel I've made a difference, and I like what I do. I'm passionate about creating effective digital communities through the art of listening - not pushing. I think the rhetorical significance of sound and video in communications messaging cannot be overlooked, and I'm also exploring the theory that shared writing and content management can build and define workplace culture.
