I am a communicator. From graphic design, video media production, journalism, photography, public relations, marketing, social media and education, I have made it a goal to constantly learn and grow. I've been pushing the envelope of change for my entire professional life. I helped pioneer the "Nooma" Christian film series, focusing on an easily sharable, evocative short format of films...years before YouTube. I pushed for widespread social media acceptance and use in the DoD, helping to shift the military's culture from risk aversion and fear to wise adherence and careful execution. I worked to transform a major corporation's culture to one more digitally collaborative and innovative. And I led a nascent marketing group at an agile start up, operating within a tightly regulated and competitive industry. My undergraduate degree centered around film and video media production, showing me the value of careful planning to convey information through the spoken word. My freelance work centered around graphic and web design, giving me insight into user experience and the simplicity of effective visual communication. My MBA gave me exposure to several areas of business and management, with a focus on information systems and technology, helping me to merge intent and passion with business results. My military service gave me the discipline and ambition to succeed. I am also a pioneer in the areas of social media, knowledge management and public affairs. I served on the forefront of DoD social media policy discussion, curriculum development at the military joint-service communication school and was a frequent speaker at federal, military and private social media seminars.
