Ward W. Vuillemot Age 45

Seattle, WA | Bellevue, WA | Buffalo, NY

Also known as: wardo

In December of 1973, I was born in Rochester, NY hospital, and raised in nearby Fairport, NY till I was 11 years old. In sixth grade my family and I moved to Skaneateles, NY where I eventually graduated high school. The year thereafter I lived in Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture in Japan as a Rotary Exchange student, studying at Kanazawa Shogyo High School. Upon returning from Japan, I entered into engineering undergraduate studies at Purdue University. Frustrated with an overly regimented program, the following year I transfered to SUNY Buffalo where I was able to concurrently study Japanese and aerospace engineering. In 1995 I returned to Japan for a year, studying at Kanazawa University as a Komatsu scholarship recipient. During my last two years as an undergraduate student I worked as a research assistant at CALSPAN and CUBRIC in this hypersonic shock tunnel facilities. I graduated cum laude in aerospace engineering from SUNY Buffalo in 1998. In September of 1998 I entered the University of Washington as a graduate research assistant under Dr. Uri Shumlak's supervision. I received both the Peterson Fellowship award for technical Japanese studies and a NASA Space Grant award for aerospace engineering. Before graduating I spent seven months in Japan working at ZEXEL as an engineer. I graduated in 2001 with two MS degrees; one in aerospace engineering for research on magneto-hydro-dynamic flow over bluff bodies in hypervelocity flows, and a second in engineering for research on Japanese space development and concentration in technical Japanese. In July of 2001 I joined The Boeing Company as a flight operations engineer where I worked for two-and-a-half years; my intentions were to focus on acting as a technical Japanese liaison. When this did not come to fruition, I transferred to our Lean Enterprise office where I worked as a simultaneous Japanese interpreter. There I worked with Shingijutsu consultants who are the world-leaders in kaizen (continuous improvement), seeing much of our enterprise. A year later (2005) I transfered back to my original group as a software engineer where I continued to work as a part-time interpreter. I also earned my certification in kaizen (continuous improvement) from The Boeing Company that year. In January of 2005 I became the lead architect and developer for PET, a flight operations tool used by our customers world-wide. In the Fall of 2005 I started my Masters program in software engineering at Seattle University; I graduated in June of 2007. We deployed our first production version of PET in June of 2008. As of September of 2008 I started work at Amazon.com on the AmazonFresh team.  As of late March of 2010 I started working on a new pilot program, AmazonTote, in the greater Seattle-metro area.
