I am a senior lawyer with expertise in the telecommunications industry, privacy law, consumer law, copyright, commercial dispute resolution, high-level research, policy and submission writing. I played a central role in the landmark iiNet copyright litigation, from trial through to the Full Court appeal and the unanimous High Court win. I have also had day-to-day conduct of complex commercial litigation in the Supreme Court of Victoria, County Court of Victoria and the Federal Court of Australia. I have contributed to numerous submissions and articles on legal, regulatory and policy matters. In addition to my experience in private practice, I've developed my team work, training, research and communication skills in my roles as a judicial researcher and in the non-profit sector in South Africa. I'm an active user of social media, which in a professional capacity has included setting up Facebook pages for non-profits, managing a team Twitter account for a law firm, developing a weekly newsletter for clients and social media training. This use of social media has given me a deep understanding of the practical and legal issues surrounding social media use by individuals and businesses. I've also freelanced as a writer and commentator on intellectual property, technology, social media and communications law. I am particularly interested in issues where the law and technology intersect and publish a regular round-up of news on law and technology at mslods.com
