Walter LeCroy was born in Alabama in 1935 and was educated at the University of Alabama and Columbia University, receiving a BA in physics in 1956 from Columbia College. He pursued graduate study in physics at Columbia, and became chief electronics engineer at Columbia's Nevis Laboratories in Irvington, New York. During this time he developed a strong interest in techniques for measuring the high-speed electronic signals encountered in particle physics experiments. In 1964 he left Nevis to form the LeCroy Corporation, which specialized in the design and development of electronic instrumentation based on these techniques. The company grew from very small beginnings to become a worldwide leader in particle physics instrumentation, displacing several larger companies in this field. In 1985, LeCroy used its technology to leverage itself into the digital oscilloscope market. This is a broader market serving the rapidly growing electronics industry. From its particle physics roots, LeCroy was able to design and develop technically superior digital oscilloscopes, which provided more accurate and complete electronic measurements. The company continued to grow, and in 1995 went public Today it is headquartered in Chestnut Ridge, NY, with subsidiaries in the US and throughout Europe and Asia. Recently Mr. LeCroy has renewed an old passion for photography, and after several shows in New York City he and his wife have opened a gallery in Charleston, South Carolina offering photographic and fine art printing services. Mr. LeCroy has been active is classical liberal causes for some years. He is on the board of the Foundation for Economic Education, and is co-founder of the Bastiat Society in Charleston (www.bastiatsociety.com). The Bastiat Society aims its free-market message at business people, in the belief that “those who work in freedom should know how freedom works.” Specialties Currently, fine photographic printing on canvas (myphotosontocanvas.com) read more ...
