My legal practice emphasizes a business-oriented approach in which I work closely with clients to develop robust intellectual property ("IP") strategies that include patent, trade secret, licensing, joint development, and copyright programs that support company goals and deliverables. In addition to working with traditional internally-driven RD companies, my clients include open innovator companies that collaborate with external companies to originate and generate innovations. As such, I also help clients assess business opportunities as they relate to intellectual property, and I specialize in drafting and negotiating agreements that enable entities (whether companies, government or academic) to work together collaboratively to advance technology. I am a frequent speaker on patent law topics, most recently contributing to an article in IP Law Business on the intricacies of protecting Green Technology, and traveling to Asia for a series of presentations, including a talk to the judges of the Tokyo High Court on recent changes in US patent law. I also work closely with the Minnesota State Bar as a speaker and planner for the annual Midwest IP Institute.
