I am a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) survivor who has overcome immense obstacles, surpassed most experts expectations, knows that most goals are attainable with polite persistence, & believes that God spared me for a purpose. As I can now successfully articulate my thoughts, while retaining the memory of not being able to walk, wearing diapers at 17 years old, not being able to communicate...I feel obligated to be a voice for this population that often isn't heard. So, yes, I am a TBI survivor. my life: *I sustained a TBI as a result of a car accident. *I wasn’t expected to come out of a coma, or even survive. *I recovered slowly & had to re-learn how to do everything. *I went back to school, post TBI & earned a AS, BA, & MA. *I wrote & published a book, I’m Going to Dance: A Memoir about Traumatic Brain Injury. *I learned how to dance. *I organized a dance/fundraiser for the Brain Injury Association of New York State & it raised over $16,000 for them. *I started my own motivational business. *I wrote & registered the screenplay to my story. *I am also trying to raise awareness of TBI, an often silent killer & disabler, that according to a 2001 statistic from the Centers for Disease Control, an estimated 5.3 million Americans were currently suffering from injuries resulting from a TBI. *I expect to play myself in the movie - I know that's never been done, but I can do it & feel it will make my story that much more inspirational when a TBI survivor from upstate NY, who didn't have the connections or resources to make much happen, successfully portrays her triumph over tragedy. *I also expect A-list stars like George Clooney, Leo DiCaprio, & Michelle Phieffer to be in it & Jack Canfield & Marcia Martin to produce it. (That's just what I see - I feel like it wants to happen & I'm doing what I can to allow it to.) I know I need help, I've asked for it, but, ultimately, I'm alone. Any advice/suggestions?
