I have been on Google Plus a LOT lately. You really should try it out. Send me your email (Google preferred but not required) and I'll send you an invite. You can find me here! Like me on Facebook and download free wallpaper photos in 6 different sizes! See my work in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Nature Conservancy Calendars. They are mailed to over 2 million households. Also, I have 2 photos in the most recent Nature's Best Magazine contest and I'll be on the cover of the Audubon Society 2012 calendar. To license/download my full-resolution photos, go to my website! I do not use Getty, etc. Why pay the high prices of a standard stock photo agency, or buy a cheap $1 microstock photo? I can not afford to give away my work for free, but I often allow the use of my Flickr sized photos for non-profit blogs or small personal projects! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Items of interest -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to my website for classic photographic prints, aluminum prints, and full resolution downloads. Have a look! Learn how to landscape like the old masters of painting by reading my 325 page Photography eBook! (pdf) See my Blog! (I only update this occasionally but I have some good advice on there about Flickr and processing!) Follow me on Twitter. Twitter is a great way to read the news, just create an account and follow who you want. You do not have to tweet, just listen! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Workshops -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am doing a series of 4-hour 2-4 person sunset photography workshops in the San Francisco area, Big Sur and other areas too. See my website/education. for more details. After the workshop, upload your photos here so we can talk about them! www.flickr.com/groups/patricksmithworkshops/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------- About my ND grad filters: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- First, Lee filters is having problems with production. Singh-Ray makes filters which are more expensive but are of equally high quality. So when I mention lee below, you can substitute Singh-Ray is you can't find Lee. The filters are rectangular flat plates of plastic about 100mm x 150mm (about 4x6 inches) made by Lee. They fit into a Lee filter holder ( or a Cokin z-pro holder) that attaches to a circular ring (with no glass in the middle) that screws into the end of the lens. I use a 77mm adapter ring for my 17-40L lens, but each lens is different. You can slide the filters up and down and rotate them too. The z-pro or Lee system is extra wide so that the edges of the filter do not show up in the picture! They are expensive but worth it. Each one is around US $99 (I have 3) , the holder is $75 and the adapter ring is $25. I have a 0.9, a 0.75 and a 0.6. The 0.9 (3 stops) is that darkest one. Sometimes I stack them if the sky is extra bright vs. the land. Here is a page with the Lee and other filters. I use the LEE 4x6 resin ND grad soft-edge, which is down the page a bit. www.2filter.com/4x4camerafilters/4x4ndgraduals.html I do have circular dark filters to make exposures longer. They screw onto the end of the lens and are not graduated. These include the Hoya ndx400 10-stop filter, which is so dark, it is hard to see through the viewfinder! Here is a Lee and a Cokin z-pro holder at B&H photo in New York. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/87108-REG/LEE_Filters_FK_F... www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/387303-REG/Cokin_CBZ100_Z_... rel="nofollow rel="nofollow You can get one at other places too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview of my work: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I make very few photos, perhaps just one or two per week but I try to make each one the very best view possible of a particular scene. Of course, this is never quite possible but I will keep going back to a place, often risking my camera and myself hoping to capture the perfect moment. For me, it is the journey and not just the destination! I want each photograph to be a work of art and not just a straight photograph and I capture it all in the camera and minimize post processing. Each photo looks full of fine detail with no pixelation or grain up to at least 24x36 and often higher. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also..... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a printed book at Blurb.com called "In Search of the Dynamic Seascape" www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/295083/?utm_source=badge&a... rel="nofollow rel="nofollow
