Tricia Gilson, PhD, is an assistant professor of anthropology at Ball State University where she teaches cultural anthropology, visual anthropology, and museum anthropology. Her work explores the intersection of museums, anthropology, and art. In addition to teaching, she volunteers at the Indianapolis Museum of Art where she is involved in numerous projects ranging from technical analysis of ethnographic art to documenting the furnishings of a mid-20th century house. Before this, she worked in the Getty Research Institute's Scholar Program as Research Assistant and later as Research Associate at the Getty Villa. Tricia received her PhD in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Southern California with her dissertation on antiquities museums in Rome. She lived in Rome for two years while conducting her doctoral research. Tricia has taught at the University of Southern California, the University of California, San Diego and UCLA Extension. With twelve years experience teaching, she taught a wide range of courses including courses in composition, new media literacy, anthropology, archaeology, humanities, and classics. Committed to art and ethnographic research, Tricia seeks to develop new opportunities for people to experience art and participate in the preservation of the cultural heritage of their communities and the world.
