For six years, I worked in Multicultural Student Affairs at the University of Notre Dame. At Notre Dame I was tasked with supporting education for racial equality on campus. I had the opportunity to work alongside thoughtful students on demanding and challenging material related to underrepresented history, racial privilege, and racial and cultural identity. I am indebted to my time in Higher Ed for the development of skills in mentoring and advising, community organizing, and educational programming. In January and February of , I helped design a forum on race and sports that included Doc Gooden, Rocket Ismael, Pam Oliver, and Richard Lapchick. A season later, I helped to organize an educational series on the legacy of the Negro Leagues in contemporary art and entertainment with Geralyn Strecker, Raymond Doswell, and Kadir Nelson, as well as a discussion seminar on the future of race relations in baseball with Major League Baseballs Wendy Lewis and historian Adrian Burgos, Jr. In January , I founded Experience Baseball to contribute new ideas to the work to strengthen urban communities through baseball. Ive studied Arabic in Morocco, excavated an Iron Age city in Israel. Ive flown planes and fought fires. To impress a girl once, I ran a marathon. I am a husband and a dad.
