I am a minister who consults with churches and businesses. Though I consult with business owners, my passion is working with pastors and the churches where they serve. Since 1983, I have been blessed to work within both sacred and secular vocations. Because of my broad business and church experience, I bring a very unique perspective to my clients. I have a been a pastor, tentmaker, church planter, author, sales trainer, stockbroker, market researcher and national award winning business owner. Ministry Experience Ever since I graduated from Bible college, my main focus is to be true to my calling. I have a depth of experience in being a “professional follower of Christ.” I have served on staffs of small, midsize, and very large multi-site churches (over 6,000 on Sunday morning). I pastored one church for twelve years before we outgrew our space and merged with another church. I have been involved with three church plants. In addition, I have consulted with churches on developing discipleship programs, church naming, church research, children’s ministry, marketing and website design. Throughout my years of ministry, I have had the opportunity to counsel with many pastors going through difficult times professionally and personally. I am thankful to be able to listen and counsel these men who have become my friends. I love pastors and I know how Satan loves to tear their families apart. Secular Experience Yet God has opened doors for me that have not always been the traditional path for the American pastor. Through the years, I have trained sales teams; I owned a four time national award winning business (when I sold my company, AAA rated my company number one in customer satisfaction for our industry in the state of Michigan); worked with companies concerning budgets and investments; and I have worked on research projects for companies such as Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Chrysler, Mazda, Home Depot, Kmart, and AT&T. I wrote a research manual for churches on behalf of Ephesians Four Ministries Church Growth Institute. These non-pastoral opportunities have taught me organizational strategies, how to listen to people, the need for structure for growth, and good hiring practices. I know the Holy Spirit convicts humanity to be reconciled with God. My training and experience has helped churches and ministers to present the good news of Jesus Christ without themselves being an obstacle to the Holy Spirit’s work. I believe worship and discipleship is the reason the church exists, and I have been fortunate to assist churches in this undertaking. Speaking and Consulting I enjoy speaking about first impressions, leadership, communication, and the family life of the minister. In my church and business consulting opportunities, I have developed a team of trusted advisors that help me with different facets of the project. I know that I am a flawed individual, therefore, I understand God’s amazing grace. This love for my Savior and understanding of His grace is evident in my speaking engagements and conversations with people. Currently, along with my consulting business, God has given me the opportunity to counsel with men who are being released from prison or who have violated parole with drug abuse in a residential facility in Detroit. Helping these men see how God will meet them exactly where they are is a privilege. Personal Life I am married to my best friend, Terri, who is my encourager and ministry partner. I am the dad to two sons, one daughter-in-law, and I am a very proud grandfather. When I am not working, I enjoy traveling with my wife, playing golf and spoiling my granddaughter. I also enjoy eating, with my favorite food being fried chicken (seems natural for a preacher). I have strong political views yet I normally choose the chubbiest candidate, since I believe that he or she understands my needs the best.
