Rebecca Amis Lawson has been whole-heartedly involved in dance and psychology for the last 25 years. She received her MA in Dance/Movement Therapy from New York University and a B.S in Psychology from the University of Tennessee. She is a somatic practitioner using the body and movement to facilitate the therapy process. In her work, she has been able to coalesce psychological mindedness, a love of dance, and a heartfelt sense of humanity. She offers a therapy that is revelatory, expressive, and self creating. In the field of Dance , Rebecca has taught professionally for 25 years. She taught at the Broadway Dance Center and Morelli Ballet in New York City before moving to North Carolina in 1986. She was on Faculty at the American Dance Festival for the '91 and '92 seasons. She has taught at Duke University, Meredith College, and The Ballet School of Chapel Hill. She was the director of and sole choreographer for the "Whirlwind Dance Company" for 10 years. As a therapist , beginning in 1980, Rebecca has worked with a variety of populations including institutionalized psychiatric patients, emotionally disturbed children, autistic children, and persons with eating disorders, dissociations, and trauma issues. In her private practice, she has worked extensively with individuals seeking personal growth and self actualization via the body, movement, and experiential processes. She has had extensive training in alignment, ideokinesiology, effort/shape analysis, authentic movement, yoga, connective tissue massage and improvisational movement. Continuum has enriched Rebecca's work as a therapist, as well as informing her own personal and spiritual journey. The essential elements of Continuum awaken a deep bio- intelligence which facilitates the emergence of one's evolutionary potential. Rebecca's involvement with Continuum has generated a new hope for individual freedom and greater resonance in the mystery. Currently she offers weekly classes in Continuum Movement and Emilie Conrad's Jungle Gym at the Evolving Therapies Studio.
