My primary skill is the practical application of technology to business problems. I have a strong bias towards agile, change-friendly design, and tend to favor pragmatic, tactical solutions over enterprise architectures. I thrive on dealing with the unknown, exploring the application of new technologies, and learning as much as I can at all times. I excel at R&D and prototype development, and am more than comfortable working with changing or incomplete requirements. In terms of tools, I am a Ruby/JRuby specialist, (albeit one with a long background in Java, Visual Basic, Cold Fusion, database development, etc.). I have extensive experience in the design and construction of both high-performance, dynamic web-based applications and the tools required to make them, and have a particular fondness for custom content management systems. I've worked in start-ups, enterprise computing organizations, and everything in-between, and while I prefer smaller, more entrepreneurial environments, I've come to appreciate both the capabilities and limitations of big IT operations More recently, it's become clear that, for me at least, the key to being successful and happy in any type of organization is the same: being a source of bold ideas, and delivering practical value from them. Finally--for the many recruiters out there--while I'm curious about good opportunities wherever they can be found, I'm firmly rooted in Austin for the foreseeable future.
