In August I became the Research Analyst and Technologist for the Kimberly J. Jenkins Chair in New Technologies and Society at Duke University. I work closely with Duke's sole University Professor, Timothy Lenoir, on science and technology studies (STS). My main research interest is in the computational augmentation of reading and discovery. I currently focus on real-time topic trend detection to analyze the impact of globalization on nanoscience in China, the US, India, and other nations. I am also studying the outbreak of political memes on Twitter as well as dominant trends in cultural studies. Major research collaborations include the NSF-supported Center for Nanotechnology in Society at UCSB, India's Ministry of Agriculture, allpatents.org, SparkIP.com (now prior-ip.com), and the Virtual Peace initiative, funded by the MacArthur Foundation. At Duke I also serve as an instructor in new media studies courses. In I enjoyed the publication of my first book-length research text on text mining and pharmacogenomics. In December I completed my MS in Information Science from UNC along with a minor in Computer Science and a Certificate of Specialization in Bioinformatics. I focused my academic training on text mining of medical information. While in graduate school I maintained a consulting business in web development and design while also working at ibiblio as a java developer and Linux systems administrator. During that time I also interned at SAS where I created a novel enterprise architecture classification framework based on automated analysis of user behavior and site content. The static version of the architecture remains in use at sas.com. Before graduate school I worked as a software developer for a rapidly growing startup, TManage. Previous to TManage I was the Web Operations Manager for ICCVAM and NICEATM, two interagency toxicological testing groups originating out of the NIEHS.
