Nick Biltons work over the past year has weaved through many different fields of storytelling design including graphic design, user interface and user experience, journalism, technology, RD, advertising, documentary film and teaching. At The Times Bilton is the Lead Technology Writer for the Bits Blog and a reporter for the newspaper. In the past he had two other roles at The Times working in the newsroom as the Design Integration Editor helping rethink visual storytelling through the print to digital transition. Bilton's other role was in The Research Development Labs where he is charged with exploring the future of the media landscape in the next - years. His role requires core research of upcoming trends, technologies and reader behaviors and the development of future example prototypes. Some of these include 'smart content' where content follows you around between devices, becoming aware of your location, interests and previous news consumption. Bilton also focuses on 'Newspaper .' where he explores and prototypes content on next generation newspaper devices made from eInk flexible displays. Bilton was the lead UI designer for the Times Reader. He also helped incubate relationships with Adobe, Google, Microsoft and Nokia. Along with co-worker Michael Young, Bilton helped incubate a start-up within The Times called ShifD. ShifD came from the duo winning a major technology competition in called Yahoo Hack Day. Patent pending. Outside of The Times, Bilton is an Adjunct Professor at NYU in the Interactive Telecommunication Program. His class is called ', , . Designing interaction for the footmobile phone, footcomputer and foottelevision'. Bilton speaks regularly around the world at major technology and publishing conferences, Universities and a variety of businesses. His talks cover an array of future topics including "The Futures of News", "The New Storytelling", "Advertising, The Next Storytelling" and "Sensors as Reporters".
