My goal with this blog is to explore my thoughts on science, and how science is communicated to the general public. I work in marketing and communications at UCLA's California NanoSystems Institute, a center focused on producing and commercializing nanoscience and nanotechnology research, and educating the next generation of scientific leaders. In this role Im at the crossroads of science and business, and communicating both to the general public.I dont have a technical background, my undergraduate degree was in Communications. Because science speaks its own language, I think my lack of technical training allows me to more clearly translate science for a general audience. Ive managed to pick up a fair bit of knowledge through a previous position on the editorial staff of Science magazine, and in my current role at CNSI.To enhance my knowledge of the business side of things, Im also pursuing and MBA from Loyola Marymount University. Im taking two classes a semester, with a focus on marketing. I plan to post on a variety of topics, but stick with communicating science as a general theme.
