Hi!I am currently working as a Your Town correspondent for The Boston Globe's website, Boston.com, and also work a weekend shift at the Globe's Metro Desk, continuing the work I began reporting and writing for several newspapers while in college.I cover the Allston-Brighton, Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill, Roxbury and West Roxbury neighborhoods of Boston for the Globe. (I also covered the Back Bay during the first month Boston.com launched a site for the neighborhood.)I joined Boston.com after a post-college summer internship at The Christian Science Monitor in Boston – one of five news organizations I've worked for. There I wrote stories and assisting with the weekly print's cover page feature.In spring 2010, I received a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where I also majored in journalism.In winter 2009, I completed a six-month co-op with The Boston Globe working for the Globe West bureau in Framingham, Mass. I covered a wide range of stories – from breaking news to features. Midway through my co-op, I became the correspondent for a new hyperlocal site covering Framingham, New England’s largest town.I joined The Massachsusetts Daily Collegian staff in fall 2008 as a news reporter and moved up to assistant news editor after about one month. At the start of my final semester of college, I became a managing editor at The Collegian, where I was integral in daily print, web and multimedia production. In this role I worked closely on special reporting projects and series, fostered partnerships with other media companies and launched a business news section and a smart phone application.While working as an editor for The Collegian and juggling a full course load during the spring 2009 semester, I also interned in Northampton, Mass., at The Daily Hampshire Gazette’s sports and news desks.Over summer 2008 I wrote for The Sun Chronicle in Attleboro, Mass., where my newspaper writing began.At various points following my internships, I've freelanced for the Globe, Gazette and The Sun Chronicle.My website, MattRocheleau.com, serves as a portfolio of my work.
