MARTIN STEPHEN is an artist living in Cambridgeshire. He was born in London, studied electronics at Nottingham University graduating with an honours degree. The artist subsequently worked as an consultant to industry and commerce for 'Just in Time' manufacturing and finance whilst building a reputation for sound recording and art. Martin continued to widen his skills and interests to encompass lighting, photography, digital art and later video art and multi-media. A rare invitation, through an influential friend in the arts, enabled a personal visit to meet renowned artist Alan Davie at his studio in Hertfordshire. Martin describes this a life changing moment with an immediate connection to Davie's work and 'abstract expressionism' pioneered in particular by Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock, William de Kooning and Arshile Gorky. The year gave Martin the opportunity out of the blue to begin to draw and paint from self expression, a natural development from music improvisation. Martin regularly exhibits in Cambridgeshire and collaborates with artists, musicians, building a wide connection of contacts within the arts. He also performs multi-media live event shows incorporating theatrical props, and lights together with screen projection of video art. Martin describes himself as romantic and spiritual. An outsider. Individualistic. Working outside the mainstream, with inspiration and the work ethos from th century modern masters in both art and music.
