As a digital editor, I specialize in using mainstream and emerging social media networks to engage an audience and build brand loyalty. I am following my passion for marketing by pursuing a masters degree in Integrated Marketing Communications through West Virginia University. I am the web editor at the Chronicle-Telegram, a daily newspaper covering Lorain County, Ohio. My role includes engaging with readers on social networks and ensuring the website is updated with news and photos. Previously, I was a digital editorcopy editordesigner at The Charleston Daily Mail. My duties included focusing on our company's "digital first" policy through social media promotion, website updates and multimedia projects, editing copy, designing pages, writing headlines and using news judgement. I also helped a former coworker build The Commoner Journal, an online news site. My role included copy editing, ensuring the website's functionality, generating a fan base on Facebook and Twitter, engaging with those fans, and helping with story selection. I graduated cum laude from Ohio Universitys E.W. Scripps School of Journalism with a bachelors degree. While a student at OU, I was on copy desk of the campus newspaper, The Post, working my way up to serving as copy chief my senior year. My responsibilities as copy chief included teaching the basics of editing and headline writing as well as addressing any mistakes in the paper. I was also responsible for teaching my staff to upload content to a new website. After college, I worked at The Athens Messenger, a weekly newspaper covering Athens County, Ohio. I was responsible for the editing and layout of The Vinton Courier, a weekly publication, and the weekend editions of The Athens Messenger.
