Preferring the official job title "Web Guy", Jim enjoys exploring the many and diverse aspects of internet design and marketing. This pursuit represents the third leg in his career journey, having previously explored academic research and teaching, as well as restaurant and event management.Self-taught, Jim began studying the subject in earnest during a 4 year stint as stay-at-home-dad at the Spice family household. "Before I began, I would never have envisioned myself on this path. But it really synced with many of my interests. I've always loved logic puzzles, and dissecting a piece of computer code to see how it worked, then reassembling it to do something different scratched that itch perfectly." He also enjoys the continued education required by the fast changing field, and learning the workings of the many different businesses his clients represent. "I've always aspired to the Renaissance Man roll, throwing my hat into many different rings. This is right down my alley".Interestingly, in an age of an increasingly smaller world where the internet makes distance less of a factor, Jim takes on clients only withing a 30 minute drive of his home. "Number one, I think it's very important to maintain face to face relationships. Second, all my clients, no matter what their field, have one thing in common -- geography -- and with the increasing emphasis on local search marketing, it's very useful to apply lessons learned from one project to the next. Finally, I like my clients to know that if I don't treat them right, I'm not too far away that they can't drive over and egg my house".Jim is a strong proponent of the Open Source Software movement, a believer in the paperless office, and supporter of W3C standards. He prefers designing css driven, xhtml sites, based on php scripting and mysql databases, which are easy to edit and expand by clients themselves.Jim lives in Milwaukee, WI with his wife Linda and two daughters, who he swears are much prettier and smarter than yours.read more ...read less ...
