I serve as the lead digital editor for the Virginia Quarterly Review, a multiple National Magazine Award winner, based at the University of Virginia. I am involved in big picture strategy as well as hands-on production. Side gigs include teaching digital publishing at UVA and serving as the co-editor of SCRATCH, a digital magazine all about the intersection of writing and money. I have an ongoing interest and specialization in how the digital age is impacting authorship and publishing, and am a frequent speaker at publishing industry and writing conferences most recently, I presented at Frankfurt Book Fair, LitFlow Berlin, South by Southwest, BookExpo America, and the Association of Writers and Writing Programs. I've also served on grant panels for the National Endowment for the Arts and the Creative Work Fund in San Francisco. Before joining VQR, I served for more than a decade with FW Media, ultimately becoming the publisher of Writer's Digest, a -million brand. As publisher, I was the strategic business leader responsible and held accountable for all financial results, quarterly forecasting, and the performance of a -member team, which produced books, annuals, magazines, events, competitions, and online education. In addition to growing revenues from online media, I was the public face of the brand, blogging for an audience of , and engaging daily with the online community via social media.
